Post subject:  Using an OptiSmart on a PV meter?

I think there are a couple of threads on here about this but not sure the questions have been really answered. I have 2 points I would like to try and clarify...

1) Use of a OptiSmart for PV systems : The websiter states 'OptiSmart is not compatible with PV/micro generation. It is vital that before purchasing any OptiSmart product you confirm it is compatible with your meter'. Why is this? Most PV systems use simple counters with a flashing light. I understand you cant use the data as a 100% accurate record, thats what the meter is for, but if I want to collect data to 'play' with, can't I use the Optismart connected to my Bridge?

2) OptiSmart compatible Meters : I have a Landis & Gyr E110 meter. Its a very simple watt hour meter with a flashing light. Other Landis & Gyr meters are listed, but not this one. Is there a reason for this? If all the OptiSmart is doing is counting flashes, will it work? Is it just that it hasn't been tested?

Any help gratefully received!

Looking at the picture at http://www.test-meter.co.uk/products/el ... ion-meter/ I would say it would work but you can always email helpme @ currentcost.com

Assuming your meter looks much the same?

OptiSmart do work on PV but the meter reading feature does not (meter reading does not work for me on a none PV meter either BTW).

My OptiSmart tells me I am making a whole 32 watts at the moment as my three panels are already in the shade at 14:35 :(

Automan.

Hi automan. Yes, that's the meter.

One I thing that may be an issue, when the PV is producing, the light blinks, but when the PV s not producing the LED is on solid.

How would the OptiSmart handle this?

Thanks for the info. Actually, looking the currentcost products page for the Optismart, the image actually looks like an E110!

I've had a reply from Elliot. He thinks it should be fine... So I've ordered.

I will keep you posted!

So, I received the OptiSmart yesterday and installed it, with a bit of help from the Forum.

First observations are the massive start-up spike when it first started recording data. This is seen best in the pachube graph.

This has obviously affected the accuracy of the readings for today, but the output looks good otherwise on pvoutput.org. It was very cloudy today so rubbish output!

Post subject:  Re: Using an OptiSmart on a PV meter?

I'm looking at the same setup ..

At this time I've got all rounting via PVBean Counter ..

I'd rather set-up over the CC Bridge & Optismart so I don't need the PC on all day .

Did the E110 work ok ?
How do you config the Optismart as production vs consumption ?
Going via parachute do you need to buy extra channels ? Any guide as to Parachute to PVoutput config or is it streightforward ..

Many thanks Peter
